Apart from commissioning me to update Fowler’s Dictionary of Modern English Usage, Oxford University Press also commissioned me to write a shorter, ready-reference guide, The Oxford A-Z of English Usage, now in it’s second edition. Damp Squid, the English language laid bare, also published by OUP, looks at some historical and modern trends in English using objective data.
